A Palace Born From Royal Dreams
Taj Lake Palace, originally known as Jag Niwas, was commissioned by Maharana Jagat Singh II between 1743 and 1746 as a luxurious summer retreat for the royal family of Mewar. Built entirely from white marble on an island in Lake Pichola, the palace offered a cool escape from Rajasthan's intense summer heat.
